Magnetic compatibility
Induction cookware needs a base that responds appropriately to the cooktop's magnetic field. Many stainless and cast-iron items work, while some aluminum or copper pans need a bonded magnetic base.
Compatibility labeling
Manufacturer induction labeling is more reliable than guessing from color or material name. Multi-layer cookware can contain both nonmagnetic and magnetic metals.
Response
Induction can change delivered power quickly, but the pan's own mass and construction still determine how quickly its cooking surface temperature changes.
Appliance instructions matter
Cooktop power levels, pan-size detection, ventilation and safety features vary. Use the cooktop's current manual for model-specific operation and compatible cookware requirements.
