Where connectivity can help
Remote timers, probe-temperature alerts, saved scale measurements and appliance-status notifications can be useful when they reduce repeated checking.
Dependencies
Connected devices may depend on apps, accounts, home Wi‑Fi and vendor cloud services. A tool whose core function disappears when a service closes has a different lifecycle risk from a simple appliance.
Updates and account security
Use supported software, unique account credentials and the vendor's current security guidance. Avoid exposing device-management interfaces directly to the public internet.
Simple can be better
A basic digital timer or thermometer may be easier to maintain and just as accurate for a task that does not benefit from remote monitoring.
